My Troubled Path to Kansas - REMIX

What we are swapping:

Bringing back a oldie, but goodie  from the warm and wonderful Kansas Troubles line, these blocks will be made from PREWASHED fabrics that are from any of the  KANSAS TROUBLES lines made by Moda.  Blocks should measure 9.5" at the time of mailing.

We are swapping a minimum of 8 baggies with 4 blocks in each.   2 Pieced Chain blocks and 2 - 9.5 inch charms. (7 to mail, one for yourself)

Each block in your baggies should be a different color as shown in the picture below.  So you will need 2  different KT prints for your blocks and 2 different prints for your charms.

The "chain" should be made from any cream to tan KT background fabrics and should be the same print in each block.  We don't want a "scrappy" look to our chain.

Who can Swap:

This is a centralized swap open to all skill levels.  To join this swap you must be in good standing with QATW, meaning you must not be in the Briar Patch and have signed the swapping agreement. LINK   You may join if you will be out of the Briar Patch on or before the sign up deadline date. Please make sure you have time to meet the deadlines listed below. While swaps are fun, the Briar Patch is not.

We need 8 or more swappers to make this a GO!    Swap is a go!

Swap Dates:

Sign ups close April 24, 2019.   Blocks must be mailed on or before May 15, 2019.  International swappers will mail 1 week earlier.

Reminders:

Weekly progress reports are required until your package arrives at the hostess’ house. (I personally choose Sunday to check-in – that way I remember to do it).

Be sure to label each of your baggies with your Given Name, and your QATW nickname. Place 2 chain blocks and 2 charms in each baggie. Place all your small labeled baggies into one large labeled baggie before packing into a flat rate envelope. Include a pre-addressed, pre-stamped return envelope with your blocks, or send $8.00 to me or paypal and I will provide a padded Flat Rate tyvec envelope.

If you find  outstanding group of blocks, i.e. all the blocks are the perfect size, threads all clipped, seams all pressed and straight, great fabrics that meet the guidelines, and packaging/labeling is above average, please send Quilting Nana a note and nominate TWO swappers that you feel deserve a GOLD STAR .

Mail your blocks to: Sheila Hastings  PO Box 1055  Fort Morgan, CO 80701

The Block:

To make the Chain Block:  Dark KT - Cut 4 - 3.5 inch squares  and 8 - 2 inch squares

                                       Background - Cut 1 - 3.5 inch square and 8 - 2 inch squares

Make 4 - 4 patches with the dark and background 2 inch squares.  If you prefer, you can cut 2 inch strips of your background and dark, and use the strip set method.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u5ABlP33Vs)  Then layout your chain block as seen above and sew together.   Make sure your background runs in the right direction.

1/2 yard of a dark KT fabric will make 8 chain blocks.

1/2 yard of background should make all 16 blocks, 2/3 would be better for cutting errors

Your block should measure 9.5 inches unfinished.

If you have any questions regarding the blocks, or your KT color choices, please post in this thread or PM Fabriholic.

Sharon - you would make our 8th swapper already!!!!  This swap is almost a GO!!!

You can sign up for more than one set, but your colors must be different from your first set.

This is going to make a beautiful quilt!!

Does anyone know how much of the light fabric is needed for this swap? I may have enough to participate but I would like to see what I have before committing.

Toni, I would say 1/2 yard minimum - but 2/3 to 3/4 to play it safe.  You would need 16 3.5 inch squares, and 64 2 inch squares, which would be a minimum of 16 inches wide for the 8 sets.
